Chobham Test Track

One of the best kept secrets, Longcross test facility near Chobham in Surrey is now available for driving experiences. Longcross or Chobham is famous as a secret test facility and is used for making TV and films. When you’re driving at Longcross, it’s not unusual to see entire film sets being constructed for the next blockbuster movie. Car chase scenes are made on the track and car manufacturers secret prototypes are all tested here. Until recently, Chobham was closed to the public and the only way you could see it was on the movies or on TV. Now, you can drive an Aston Martin around a film test track or drive an Aeriel Atom at the same place they make the famous motoring programmes like Top Gear. Although there are the usual YouTube videos out there of laps around Longcross Proving Ground, we though it was worth taking the time to describe it, as it’s like no other driving experience track you’re likely to find anywhere in the UK. We’ve worked at this venue quite a lot since it became available, so we know it well and hopefully you’ll find it useful if you’re thinking of buying someone a driving experience at Chobham

Main Features

It has two long straights linked at one end by a speed-bowl style banked turn that goes right round by 180 degrees. At the other end is a technical section known as The Snake. This is really tight, with a large, steep hill half way around that is used by motoring journalists, trained test drivers and TV crews for getting the car airbourne. Don’t worry, you won’t be doing that, but it makes the track one full of character. At the end of The Snake, the track opens out onto another long straight, often with a couple of chicanes added to make it really good fun on the brakes as you flick your supercar right and left.
Longcross Proving Ground was always closed to the public, but now for the first time, you can drive supercars here in a way never previously possible.

Location

It’s a great location, situated just off the A30, close to Sunningdale and Chobham, so easy to reach from London. Indeed, it’s not far at all from Heathrow airport, so even if you don’t live in Surrey, it’s worth coming to Chobham for a driving experience, as it’s so close to the biggest airport in the UK.
